Foxkei

Haven’t been blogging much lately because I’ve been busy working on the site itself. I’ve added a few new things to the layout which I’ll explain in this blog after the jump.

First of all, the Gallery section is now open. I’ve uploaded a few anime and gaming artbooks with the help of members from our forums. I’d like to thank Heiae for Zone of the Enders 2 and Persona 3 artbooks; and AlucardsFate for Odin Sphere artbook. Also in the gallery: Metal Gear Solid, CLANNAD, Cowboy Bebop, Suzumiya Haruhi, and more. Check it out.

Also, we have a special section for Foxkei fanarts! Special thanks to Amuro Ray who recently drew a beautiful Anna (Foxkei’s mascot… for now!). You can submit your drawings too! Either make a topic in Creative section of the forums or send them to admin [at] foxkei [dot] com. Check out Amuro’s DA page for some more excelent drawings.

Now, let’s talk about the homepage.
First off is the menu on the right. By default, the menus are open and you can see comments, forum options, etc. Now, unless you have disabled JavaScript, you should be able to click on the names and arrows to close the menus. It really doesn’t do much, but I thought it’d be nice to have that option.

The comments that show up on the menu are more organized now. The names are bolded and the text doesn’t get cut-off after 25 words. You can also click on the name to take you to the comment. Right now, it’s only showing 10 recent comments, but I’ll probably increase it to 15 or 20.

I also added a new section called “Random Blog” which shows random blogs (hence the name!). I have to update it every time I make a new blog, but I think it’s worthed. I figured since I’m spending a good amount of time preparing and writing these, I should make sure the get maximum exposure. The updating part is actually pretty simple. I just add a new line to the script itself and upload an image for the blog preview. I’ll make another Behind the Scenes blog later on.

The content is now under a new menu which fetches content based on categories. For example, if you click on Gaming category, all blogs under Gaming category show up. The menu uses AJAX so there is no page loading. Just click and Viola! It’s there. The Archive tab at the end is a hover menu which is self-explanatory.

Something you might have missed is the new watermarks on images. If you look at the previous blog, you can see the watermarks at the bottom of every image. I thought it makes my blogs look more professional. :P

The footer has been expanded too. For now, I put up some RSS feeds for a few sites, but I’m planning on adding more stuff. If you have RSS, drop me an email [admin (at) foxkei (dot) com] and we can become affiliates!

The commenting section has changed a bit too. I’ve added a plugin where users are assigned random avatars based on their email address. I messed around with the comment section’s CSS and now admin’s comments (my comments!) are highlighted. I got the idea from YouTube. Hehe~

If you’ve commented on any of my blogs more than once, you get to choose your own avatar from the 200+ selection available. Just make sure you use the same email address each time. After one comment, you should see a link under the “Submit Comment” button like the image below (if you don’t see it, refresh your page). Click on it and choose your avatar. But make sure to check your email for confirmation email after you chose your new avatar.
