View Full Version : Unofficial RPGT Season12 Match-ups!

Well, Season 12 is over, Ryu4 destroyed the competition and got his well-earned victory.

But what about all those fighters who barely got a chance to fight?! Maybe things would have been different if the matches had been drawn differently?

Maybe some of the people whose fighters got knocked out round 1 would like some revenge?

Well, for fun, why don't we vote on some of the other possible match-ups?

It's an unofficial tournament, so none of this would effect anyone's records, but it's interesting to see how things would go.

Match 1:
Ledah (Riviera) vs. Angelo (Dragon Quest 8)

Match 2:
Megaman X (MMX:Command Mission) vs. Albert Serdio (Legend of Dragoon)

Match 3:
Serph (SMT: Digital Devil Saga) vs. Thor (Marvel Legends)

Match 4:
Bass.EXE (Megaman.EXE) vs. Soma Cruz (Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow)

Match 5:
Kanji Tatsumi (SMT:Persona4) vs. Thage (Eternal Poison)

Match 6:
Gary 27 vs. Piastol (Skies of Arcadia: Legends)

Match 7:
Seena (Lufia3) vs. The Black Whirlwind

Match 8:
Oswald (Odinsphere) vs. Deborah (Dragon Quest 5)

Rules are mostly the same as the official tournament - Please include why you think a certain character will win, though feel free to truancate as this isn't an official match. The first round of matches is up for a week (since I'm doing the whole first round in one shot). Feel free to vote for your own fighter if you think they'd win.

Note: Deborah is not a first-round knock-out, but due to the Wild Card, the matches didn't line up evenly. Deborah was the second-round knockout by our champ, Ryu4, so she substitutes for the Wild Card.

Happy voting!

Aw sweet, something I can vote on.

Match 1:
Ledah (Riviera) vs. Angelo (Dragon Quest 8)
Ledah's regeneration saves his butt here, I think. Angelo is more of a slow-and-steady fighter, so none of his moves are especially damaging except for maybe Falcon Slash. With Ledah automatically regenerating health after each turn, Angelo will be hard-pressed to inflict enough damage to take him down. Ledah's boss immunities also ensure that Angelo's status effects won't be all that useful either. This one would last a long time thanks to Angelo's plentiful MP reserves, but once his MP does run out, Ledah will squash him.

Match 2:
Megaman X (MMX:Command Mission) vs. Albert Serdio (Legend of Dragoon)
Stronger, tougher, faster, more options, etc. Albert isn't the fastest LoD character, so Megaman X gets plenty of opportunities to beat him down. Albert might have a chance if he can transform and start using Rose Storm to diminish X's offense, but I don't think it will be enough. Megaman X overwhelms him eventually.

Match 3:
Serph (SMT: Digital Devil Saga) vs. Thor (Marvel Legends)
Magic Repel should take care of Thor's electricity-based attacks. From there, he just casts Ice Amp and blasts Thor with ice attacks until he turns into a burly Norse popsicle.

Match 4:
Bass.EXE (Megaman.EXE) vs. Soma Cruz (Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow)
I'm still not quite sure what to make of Bass.EXE, but from the videos I've seen of him in action, he seems to be a bit of a glass cannon -- lots of offense but not that impressive in the way of defense. I'm sure Soma can find the right combination of souls to dish out the pain before Bass can pull off any of his nastier attacks. And with the Rune Ring or Chaos Ring equipped to boost his MP regeneration rate, Soma can fight for a long, looong time.

Match 5:
Kanji Tatsumi (SMT:Persona4) vs. Thage (Eternal Poison)
Magic doesn't work on Thage, so Kanji's electricity spells will be useless here. She might be frail enough to succumb to Kanji's physical attacks, but if she runs low on HP, she can always just cast a fire or darkness spell on herself to drain it an heal HP. That pseudo-healing is probably going to be the difference-maker here since it means she could potentially outlast Kanji.

Match 6:
Gary 27 (Fallout 3) vs. Piastol (Skies of Arcadia: Legends)
Fo' serious? Perhaps the strongest character here versus...Gary? This will not be pretty. This one really depends on Piastol's mood at the time. If she's in a good mood, one casting of Eternum kills Gary dead. If she's in a bad mood, she slices him to little itty bitty pieces with her scythe and feeds them to her dog.

Match 7:
Seena (Lufia3) vs. The Black Whirlwind (Jade Empire)
Seena starts by casting F. Barrier to cut Black Whirlwind's damage in half. From there, she can just confuse him or put him to sleep, then use Absorb and X-Absorb to drain all his health. Not much he can do about it, I don't think.

Match 8:
Oswald (Odin Sphere) vs. Debora (Dragon Quest 5)
Dazzle and Kasap make Oswald whimper. Debora has the Miracle Sword for some easy healing and some pretty nasty magic spells to boot. Oswald could potentially take her out if he uses Overload and then starts wailing on her, but Debora can probably avoid that if she stays aggressive and keeps the pressure on Ozzie. If he tries to back off and use Invisible + Psypher Heal to restore his HP, Debora would take that opportunity to cast Oomph a couple times (it stacks, remember), then smash him to pieces when he re-enters the fray.

I call sheenanigans on a serious lack of Cyan from the roster.

Regardless...

Match 1:
Ledah (Riviera) vs. Angelo (Dragon Quest 8)
Ledah's ability to regenerate and enhanced magic versus that of Angelo's really help give him a distinct advantage.

Match 2:
Megaman X (MMX:Command Mission) vs. Albert Serdio (Legend of Dragoon)I see where SnakeEyez is coming from, but I have to disagree. Yes, Albert is one of the weaker characters in the game, but I think his Dragoon form negates come of those disadvantages, increasing his agility and allowing multiple attacks.

Match 3:
Serph (SMT: Digital Devil Saga) vs. Thor (Marvel Legends)
Due to having to make everyone in the games balanced, Thor is extremely gimped by comparison to his comic continuity version. Serph can deflect his attacks and over power the god of thunder.

Match 4:
Bass.EXE (Megaman.EXE) vs. Soma Cruz (Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow)
Hmmm...tough call. I'm going to have to go with Bass though. He has a pretty large arsenal and his super cure move thing (I forget its name) is pretty useful.

Match 5:
Kanji Tatsumi (SMT:Persona4) vs. Thage (Eternal Poison)
If Thage is immune to magic, then Kanji stands no chance.

Match 6:
Gary 27 vs. Piastol (Skies of Arcadia: Legends)
Piastol is an optional super boss from Skies of Arcadia. Gary 27 is a beginner enemy, essentially. It seems to me it's spelled out pretty well.

Match 7:
Seena (Lufia3) vs. The Black Whirlwind
I gotta go with SnakeEyez on this. Black Whirlwind is a tough nut but Senna can reduce his strength significantly. Once that's taken care of it's a simple matter of whittling away at his health.

Match 8:
Oswald (Odinsphere) vs. Deborah (Dragon Quest 5)
Deborah is physically a well oiled machine, but her magic attacks in particular help give her the edge over Oswald, who's essentially limited to physical attacks.

Match 1:
Ledah (Riviera) vs. Angelo (Dragon Quest 8) - I think Ledah is win because he is boss, and Angelo is big status effect user.

Match 2:
Megaman X (MMX:Command Mission) vs. Albert Serdio (Legend of Dragoon) - I think X is a win because Albert has bad MP. He can't use his power enough before X is defeat him.

Match 3:
Serph (SMT: Digital Devil Saga) vs. Thor (Marvel Legends) - Serph eats him haha. It's true, Serph is strong against Thunder.

Match 4:
Bass.EXE (Megaman.EXE) vs. Soma Cruz (Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow) - He is faster and can use many tricks.

Match 5:
Kanji Tatsumi (SMT:Persona4) vs. Thage (Eternal Poison) - Thage can stop magic, but Kanji's strongest power is HP attack, not magic.

Match 6:
Gary 27 vs. Piastol (Skies of Arcadia: Legends) - Haha, this is funny. Piastol is a win in all stats.

Match 7:
Seena (Lufia3) vs. The Black Whirlwind - Seena can use a stat break. It's strong.

Match 8:
Oswald (Odinsphere) vs. Deborah (Dragon Quest 5) - I don't know. This is difficult fight. Oswald can transform first to become very strong, but Debora has many tricks. Oswald can maybe kill fast, but he doesn't then Debora will can win. I think. ???

Ends tomorrow reminder. This is an unofficial tourney, so even if I get less than 3 votes, I'm just calculating and moving on. Luckily, I have 3 votes this time, but for future rounds, this might matter.

Alrighty, here goes:

Match 1: I gotta go with Ledah here. Angelo is more of a healer type character. He has some good weapon skills, but nothing spectacular. Ledah hit spretty hard and has that special attack thingy whne his meter fills up...I forget what its called. Anyway, I vote for Ledah because he is more powerful IMO.

Match 2: I vote for Megaman X. His ulimate armor is extremely powerful and I don't think Albert can survive for too long. X just has to wait for his meter to charge up fully and after a couple of turns he'll unleash his strongest attack for the win.

Match 3: Serph wins. If its true that he is strogn against thunder, than Thor is pretty much screwed because he is the god of thunder...I mean, its what he does. So Serph wins because he won't be harmed by Thor's strongest attacks.

Match 4: Soma wins here because of all the techniques he can use. He has a lot of weapons he can choose from, and a ton of abilities with his souls.

Match 5: This one is tough because i'm not too familiar with either fighter, but I'm gonna go with Kanji here. Yes, Thage can't be hurt by magic, bu she is a mage type, which means she is probably weak against physical damage. I think Kanji can take her.

Match 6: Piastol, easily. One use of eternes and its all over.

Match 7: I gotta go with Seena here. She has some good spells at her disposal and black whirlwind is kind of a brawler. I think Seena would try to stay away, and nail him with magic for the win.

Match 8: I'm gonna vote for Oswald. I think his shadow transformation thingy can give him a win against a vert tough Deborah. It would be close since both can take damage well, but I gotta go with Oswald.

Results!

Match 1:
Ledah (Riviera) 4-0
Looks like Angelic wrath wins the day. Riviera bosses are actually pretty potent.

Match 2:
Megaman X (MMX:Command Mission) 3-1
Robots and fame will get you pretty far.

Match 3:
Serph (SMT: Digital Devil Saga) 4-0
Digital Demon is nice, but I'll bet it was the Thunder-nulling ability that did it.

Match 4:
Soma Cruz (Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow) 3-1
Is Dracula. Win. Though I expected Alucard to at least vote on this match.

Match 5:
Kanji Tatsumi (SMT:Persona4) vs. Thage (Eternal Poison) 2-2 TIE!
Cointoss winner: Thage!

Match 6:
Piastol (Skies of Arcadia: Legends) 4-0
Piastol gets a bye first round. It's probably for the best.

Match 7:
Seena (Lufia3) 4-0
Is secretly a goddess. That's kind of a point in her favor.

Match 8:
Deborah (Dragon Quest 5) 3-1
Well, she WAS the only one to make it to round 2 in the original tournament, so I suppose she has an edge.

Unofficial RPGT Season 12. ROUND 2!

Match 1:
Ledah (Riviera) vs. Megaman X (MMX:Command Mission)

Match 2:
Serph (Digital Devil Saga) vs. Soma Cruz (Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow)

Match 3:
Thage (Eternal Poison) vs. Piastol (Skies of Arcadia Legends)

Match 4:
Seena (Lufia 3) vs. Deborah (Dragon Quest 5)

Half the length, but twice as intense. Voting lasts a week, get your votes in now!

Match 1:
Ledah (Riviera) vs. Megaman X (MMX:Command Mission)
Megaman X just has too much offense for Ledah's regeneration to overcome, methinks. Once X goes into Hyper Mode, he should be able to break through Ledah's healing and smash him with a flurry of bullets and missiles.

Match 2:
Serph (Digital Devil Saga) vs. Soma Cruz (Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow)
Looking through a few FAQs, it doesn't look like Soma has any accessories or anything that can block poison. If that's the case, Serph's Venom Fang should be the difference-maker. Once Soma is poisoned, he'll lose his attack bonuses, which will make it tough for him to inflict any heavy damage to Serph. If there is a way for Soma to block Venom Fang, let me know and I'll reconsider my vote.

Match 3:
Thage (Eternal Poison) vs. Piastol (Skies of Arcadia Legends)
Ouch. Thage's magic absorption might protect her from Eternum, but Tempest Dance just kind of makes her explode. She doesn't have the durability to withstand a move like that.

Match 4:
Seena (Lufia 3) vs. Debora (Dragon Quest 5)
Seena relies heavily on her magic spells to deal damage, and Debora has Bounce to handle those. As long as she keeps Bounce in effect and heals periodically with the Miracle Sword, she should be just fine. Seena's best bet is to build up 100 IP and unleash Heavy Noise (which deals a variety of status ailments like FF's Bad Breath), but she isn't going to last that long -- especially not since she'll need to burn IP to use F. Barrier every so often. All things considered, this really seems like Debora's fight.

Match 1:
Ledah (Riviera) vs. Megaman X (MMX:Command Mission)
I think X is faster type. He use a Hyper Mode to power up and win Ledah. With strong power, Ledah can win maybe but, I think X Heart will save X every time.

Match 2:
Serph (Digital Devil Saga) vs. Soma Cruz (Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow) - Serph can eat a monster, and Dracula is a monster-type. So I think Serph can eat Soma.

Match 3:
Thage (Eternal Poison) vs. Piastol (Skies of Arcadia Legends) - Mr. SnakeEyez is right.

Match 4:
Seena (Lufia 3) vs. Deborah (Dragon Quest 5) - Debora has many interesting magic type. Seena magic is almost already attack-type. It have no various types. Maybe this is how Debora is a winner.

Ed209

Alrighty, round 2:

Megaman X wins. X's ultimate armro gives him a huge edge in power over ledah. Also, if I remember correctly Ledah uses fire based attacks, and X has a force metal to absorb fire damage. So, X wins.

I gotta go with Serph for the win. I think he is more powerful than Soma and he doesn't have to rely on souls all the time.

Piastol wins. SE said it, Thage wouldn't survive Tempest Dance. if she did survive it would only take a turn or so more to finish her off.

Deborah wins. She is very durable and I think she can take out seena before her spells can finish her.

Well, I was kind of hoping for more votes if I left it open another day or so.

Anyway, time is up! How wasted is my generosity.

RESULTS!

Match 1:
Megaman X 3-0
X defeats the mighty angel in a landslide victory! Transformations have always been a big selling point in the RPGT.

Match 2:
Serph 3-0
Another landslide(...) victory! Despite Castlevania's historically good showing in the RPGT, it seems transforming into a violent demon works its magic.

Match 3:
Piastol 3-0
Piastol is a big contender in the league, and despite her unfortunate loss in the first round this season, she's showing her true colors again in the unofficial match-ups.

Match 4:
Deborah 3-0
It seems letting a second-round knock-out fighter into the tourney might be a bit too generous, Deborah hasn't lost a match yet.

And now, the semi-finals! There's only two matches this week, just like a regular RPGT season. I'm hoping people will have time to put their two cents in.

Match 1:
Megaman X (MMX: Command Mission) vs. Serph (SMT: Digital Devil Saga)

Match 2:
Piastol (Skies of Arcadia Legends) vs. Deborah (Dragon Quest 5: Hand of the Heavenly Bride)

Happy voting! The winners next week will be seeing a special bonus!

SnakeEyez

Okay, just making sure you didn't forget about us. :D

Match 1:
Megaman X (MMX: Command Mission) vs. Serph (SMT: Digital Devil Saga)
The right selection of Force Metals should save X's butt here, I think. He'll probably want Freeze Block to prevent himself from being frozen by Serph's ice attacks, Virus Block to prevent himself from being poisoned by Serph's Venom Fang, and Firewall to protect himself from Serph's other status spells. Serph is also weak against fire, it seems, so X's Fire Buster should put a serious hurting on him. Seems like X has all the advantages in this fight.

Match 2:
Piastol (Skies of Arcadia Legends) vs. Debora (Dragon Quest 5: Hand of the Heavenly Bride)
Debora needs to make sure that she has Bounce in effect at all times to protect herself from Eternum. If Bounce runs out, she'll need to take a turn to re-cast it or else she eats some instant death next round. With Piastol continually spamming Tempest Dance, however, Debora is also going to need to keep attacking with the Miracle Sword to keep her HP at a reasonable level. Eventually you'll get a situation where Piastol uses Tempest Dance while Debora's Bounce runs out at the same time. At this point, Debora will be weakened and without instant death protection. If she casts Bounce, Piastol hits a second Tempest Dance to finish off Debora; if she heals with the Miracle Sword, Piastol uses Eternum to kill her. Not much Debora can do about it.

UchimuraKei

Match 1:
Megaman X (MMX: Command Mission) vs. Serph (SMT: Digital Devil Saga) - I think Serph can win with Sinai Fire. It strong hits many times. X can use a X-Heart to relife, but Sinai Fire can hit again in one-turn, so X is died again.

Match 2:
Piastol (Skies of Arcadia Legends) vs. Deborah (Dragon Quest 5: Hand of the Heavenly Bride) - Deborah is too slow. Piastol use the Eternum before Deborah can take turn.

This is supposed to close today... anyone left who wants to vote? You could swing the results of an entire match!

Ed209

Alright, I'll vote.

In the first match I vote for Megaman X. I've never played the game, but it seems like Serph is weak to fire, which X has in his powerful special attack, whose name I can't remember. I think that would give X and edge here.

In the second match I vote for Piastol. I think Piastol has an edge in speed and power. Tempest dance is pretty strong, and Eternum would kill Debora instantly if she doesn't protect herself.

DjinnandTonic

And that concludes the exciting Semi-finals of the Unofficial RPG Tournament League!

Hold onto your seats for the thrilling Finals Match!

First, the results!

Megaman X (MMX: Command Mission)
X just barely edged out Serph by a single vote in the last round, all thanks to his Firey abilities roasting the ice-aligned Digital Devil. But can he handle the next opponent?

Piastol (Skies of Arcadia Legends)
Piastol overcomes the second-round contender Deborah and her tricky Bounce technique with some good-old-fashioned Tempest Dance power! But how much damage is a scythe going to do against an armored robot like X?

To commemorate the fun we've all surely had with the tourney so far, I subject you all to my 5-minute doodles portraying the ACTION of the URPGT!

Megaman X (MMX: Command Mission) vs. Piastol (Skies of Arcadia Legends)

I have to give this one to Piastol. She is clearly in the lead in power and magical abilities, especially Tempest Dance and Eternum. This fight will be over before Megaman knows what hit him.

SnakeEyez

On snap, doodles! Shit's gettin' serious now.

FINALS:
Megaman X (MMX: Command Mission) vs. Piastol (Skies of Arcadia Legends)
As much as I would like to vote for Piastol, I have to cast my decision for Megaman X. Once again, the right Force Metals will be the key to victory. DOA Block will protect him from instant death magic (such a Piastol's ever-so-handy Eternum), Water Resist will severely weaken her water spells, and Super Resist will protect him from her petrification move. Basically, the only thing Piastol has left is Tempest Dance. It's a nice high-damage move, sure, but X has some pretty gnarly defenses to temper the blows. Plus, Piastol has a slight weakness against ice attacks, so X's Ice Buster will be doing a bit of extra damage to her. It might not seem like much, but it will add up after a while. Piastol is definitely the faster of the two, but once X enters Hyper Mode, he should be able to close the speed gap and go blow-for-blow with her. Good fight either way, but I think X has more advantages in his favor.

Groovy. I voted for X, but I'm cool with Piastol winning. She's a powerful contender who really needs a better record. Seriously, three first-round losses? That doesn't suit her at all. Maybe she'll go on a tear through the roster next time....
