I watched Gremlins the other night. Christmas fun!
I watched The Dark Knight for the first time last night. It was better than I expected, but it was damn long! Did anyone else have a problem with the light levels during some of the action sequences? I couldn't tell what was going on half the time.

I know what you mean. Despite what the masses would have you believe, the Christopher Nolan films aren't the best movies in the series. Good entries, but not the best.

Actually, I think the Nolan films are the best in the Batman film franchise, but Begins had issues. The Dark Knight was amazing, though. I watched it two days ago and loved it.
The Joker was extremely well done, Two-Face managed to not feel tacked on and, darnit, it was just an awesome movie.
It's also my first BD movie. Heh.

I love Pixar, too...I got Wall-E on DVD for Xmas, which was a great present. The Dark Knight is the only movie I liked better than Wall-E this year.
I went to the movies yesterday and watched about half of The Spirit (meh), then left and watched Seven Pounds (pretty good, but too slow and some parts of the story were really murky).

I also watched Wall-E yesterday! And yes, it was awesome. I couldn't stop blathering on about it at work today. Some chick said she didn't like it because of the lack of talking in the first half. Needless to say, I'm no longer a fan of that chick.

I don't get all the Hate for Clone Wars.
I didn't think it was that bad. The plot sucked something fierce, but other than that, I didn't mind it. I don't mind the TV series either. It's got a much better plot, kinda what the movie should have had.

The TV series is actually GOOD. I watch every episode.
Well, it's not always good (I'm looking at you, Jar Jar episode), but Rookies and the Kit Fisto episode were awesome.
Still not as good as Tartakovsky's Clone Wars miniseries, or as engaging as the Republic comics. But, of course, the series is aimed at a younger audience.. so.. That's forgivable.

Since I'm on Christmas break, I've been attacking the GIANT PILE O' UNWATCHED FILMS that I've had sitting around for a while.
Saving Private Ryan - Cut out the hokey graveyard intro and outro, and it's awesome. And I didn't remember so many big names as support.
Wall-E - Even better the second time around.
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian - surprisingly grim in places. Took a while to get going, but once it did it was pretty good. I think The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe is a little better, but still, Caspian's Perfectly Acceptable Entertainment.
The Powerpuff Girls Movie - missing a lot of what made the show good, but it's still fun.
Wanted - Awful.
The President's Analyst - Awful.
War Inc. - Awful.
Iron Man - Surprisingly good. Most of the time these movies are either super serious (Nolan's Batman movies) or way over the top (Spiderman), but Iron Man managed to strike a nice balance. It's just silly enough to be fun from beginning to end, but not so silly that you stop caring about any of it.
Cars - Better than I remembered. I didn't like it that much when I saw it in theaters.
Corpse Bride - Covered this back when the old forums were still up, I think. I liked it more than Nightmare Before Christmas, you guys said I was crazy. Good times. :p
Still got a couple more to get through before the end of the week.

I watched Valkyrie yesterday. If I knew nothing about what really happened at all, I would've enjoyed it A LOT. Very well made, but sitting there knowing exactly what happens and why ruins the movie.
Cruise, though he had no accent, was still a decent actor in the role. Good at playing someone who's serious and pissed off. I really grew to like some of the characters, too.

It's more of a documentary than a movie, but it wasn't bad.
It's definitely a documentary, but it's pretty interesting. Billy Mitchell's a total asshole in it, but I read interviews with the Twin Galaxies referee (can't remember his name at the moment), and apparently selective editing on the part of the director ended up painting a pretty negative picture of the guy. Made for a great film, though.

Hot Fuzz - Doesn't get the love it deserves. Everyone loves Shaun of the Dead (and rightfully so, because it's great), but I never even hear people mention Hot Fuzz, good or bad. It's a really fun movie, and a worthy followup.
The Dark Knight - First time I saw it, I was extremely disappointed with it. I think it was the hype and my expectations combining to create some impossible goal for the movie. I loved Batman Begins, and I assumed the sequel would be similar (and wanted the sequel to be similar), but TDK is a completely different kind of movie. It wasn't what I expected, it wasn't what I wanted, and I think that's why I was sour on it.
Watching it a second time, knowing what it actually is and with expectations in check, I really liked it.
Panic Room - Eh.

yea, simon pegg just plain rocked in that movie.
But, over the course of several days I saw 5 terrific movies.
First was Slumgod millionare, which was freaking fantastic, the movie had me gripped to the very last second. Another wonderful film from director danny boyle.
second was Frost/Nixon which was a very well done political film by ron howard, frank langella was perfect as nixon.
third was Milk, even though the subject matter might be weird for some, the film was amazing, sean penn gets my props for the most convincing gay man played by a straight guy. Sort of odd how the castro district was about a couple blocks away from where we were watching the film.
4th, was The wrestler, which featured a brave performance by the plastic surgery induced, micky rourke. This film made me sad as well as thrilled. Darren aronofsky, who I remember directed the extremely headache inducing "the fountain"
did an extraordinary job with the low budget pic.
and last but not least, was WALL-E, which was a very heartwarming film, despite it's semi mature subject matter. I still love howEvery single person on that ship basically became morbidly obese.

Resident Evil: Degeneration
It's very... Resident Evilish. I enjoyed it. I was hopping for a bit more but, it was decent. The basic animation wasn't very good. The detail was great but, the people, especially Leon walked without really moving their arms. Not much for facial expressions either. They did cast Steven Blume (Spike, Mugen) and that's always a plus even if his character sucked.

Wall-E was great. I saw it in theaters a few months back.
The real issue here is that no one has listed The Curious Case of Benjamin Button! WHAT A FANTASTIC MOVIE! I have watched it twice since it came out. It is absolutely moving... I just loved everything about it. I love the way the story was told, I love how certain scenes were filmed, I loved the different stages of emotion from the different characters, I loved Brad and Kate's perfomance, and I loved the subtle yet appropriate humour.
This is most certainly a film worthy of the insanely high movie ticket prices. Yes, it's rather long but once you sit down and you begin to appreciate Benjamin, you won't notice the time at all (unless you have to pee so I highly suggest you take care of that initially and don't drink too much during the movie). You won't want to miss any of it. In conclusion, I just want to say that this movie touched me to the core and helps you appreciate the little things in life you take for granted. 9.5/10 for me so go watch it.

I think at the least for the next year, almost every time someone mentions a movie, my retort will be:

I saw Benjamin Button as well.
I liked it a lot. It's pretty similar to Forest Gump except the main character isn't mentally handicapped and has that "born old, die a baby" medical condition. There are more than a few occasions when Benjamin does something that Forest did, such as learning to walk without a crutch or aid of some sort and when his mother tells him a phrase very similar to the "life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get".
It was Gump without the outlandish situations. I will say, it's not a very Box-Office friendly movie. Gump was more entertaining, BUT I had more of a an attachment to the characters in Benjamin Button.
It's easily in my top 3 movies of 08 list. I liked it more than the Wrestler, although I still think Rourke gave the better performance in lead role. Cate Blanchett was stunningly beautiful too.
I wish they had given Julia Ormond more to do, it was a surprise to see her in a movie again.

That specific scene really reminded me of Gump. It was done by the same people though wasn't it? Using the war as a backdrop for the movie and other natural disasters. Gump was much more humour than Button, but I'm such an emotional person, I mind shedding some tears when it's worthy.
I think at the least for the next year, almost every time someone mentions a movie, my retort will be:

I can't say that I was too crazy about Dark Knight. The best thing about that movie was the Joker. In all, it didn't do for me what I'd hoped it would and I'm kind of sick of it now. The family kept wanting to watch it during the holiday and I must have watched it 3 times in one week.
KomodoAce

Yeah, unlike Gump, they set the movie back a few more decades.
There is definitely more humor in Gump, I agree. My eyes got just a little watery near the end of Button, when Daisy is taking care of him as a kid, up until the end when he dies as an infant.

I'm talking more about the way it's presented. I get it, it's a movie. But whats more plausible, a disease or condition in which someone is born old and dies a baby, or one where some retarded guy is shaking hands with JFK, playing championship ping-pong in China and talking to John Lennon on a late night show?

I think the film could've used a MUCH better marketing campaign. All youz guyz seem to have really liked it, and then there are the comparisons to Forrest Gump (a much-beloved movie by the general public) so this probably could have been a bigger box-office draw. Most people probably haven't heard of it, which is too bad if the film is as good as you guys say. Plus the commercials I've seen haven't made it look interesting in the slightest, and in fact were kind of a turn-off.

You suck.
But I mean, the trailers put him looking like some sort of super bad-ass, and in most of his later movies, he hasn't really filled that role.

See it and we'll talk more about it.
Watched an older movie called "The Driver". Never paid attention to the games very much, but there's a part where he's trying to show some robbers that he's qualified to be a getaway driver by doing a bunch of fancy manuevers in an empty parking garage.

Yay! I'm glad. If anything, find a dollar theater and go watch it there. :)
Well, lemmie do a quick review on all the movies I've properly watched since the 26th of last month.
Bedtime Stories: Lame. I didn't like it. There were maybe 2 or 3 things in the entire movie that actually made me laugh and most of them were WTF moments. I had no intentions of seeing it in the first place, but I missed the last showing of Bolt and I had no other opportunities to use my free movie coupon.
Reccomend? No.
Step Brothers: I wasn't too impressed with this one either. I was depending on Will Ferral to give me some laughs. Once again, I can only remember 2 things that made me laugh.
Reccomend? No.
Quarantine: This movie gave me more laughs than the two comedies mentioned above, lol! I actually liked this movie. There was a decent amount of suspense which to me is scarier than a bunch of gore. I enjoyed the way it was filmed and I also thought It was cool/funny as crap when the camera guy was beating down one of the girls with his camera. LOL A grown man in front of me jumped quite a few times (which made me laugh) but at one point I jumped myself (even though I knew something was about to scare me.. sigh). I saw it coming, yet I flinched, threw up my hands, and kinda punched myself in the face. :O.. LoL
Reccomend? Yes.
Jumper: This movie hasn't even finished yet and I'm already writing my review. This movie had SOOOO MUCH POTENTIAL! I'd wanted to see it a long time ago when I saw the commercials, but it didn't seem to make any impact on my friends who'd watched it. The 'jumping' business was pretty cool, but as far as story and character development... it failed miserably. Why would you drop everything you're doing and run off to Rome with a guy you haven't seen in YEARS and thought he was dead? WTF Dumb girl. Also, what was up with his 'sister' at the end of the movie giving him the stink eye. LOL The acting was pretty medicore as well. I think they could have added a little more length to the movie and gave it more depth but they focused too much on the jumping aspect and not others. It takes a lot more than good special effects to make a good movie.
Reccomend? No.
I got Step Brothers for Christmas, for some odd reason. I saw it at the drive-in over the summer, and I don't think I paid attention to as much as a quarter of it, so I'm not too eager to re-watch it. The only Will Ferral movie I really love is Anchorman.

I just saw Step Brothers...
That movie sucked.
I had a bunch of people tell me it was, "The funniest movie I've ever seen in my entire life!"
So I figured it might be good.
It had it's moments, but overall it was incredibly childish... And not in the funny way either. Imagine a middle-schooler cussing and loudly yelling out dirty euphemisms in public, in an attempt to look funny.

Will Ferrell has played the same "man child" in movies for a while now.
As much as I loved the guy in Anchorman and Old School and especially in the little cameos he makes, the man's comedy is the same thing it's been for years now.

I never saw Fearless... I heard it was just plain depressing. I like a good cry every now and then though... I might watch it.
As for this evening/morning. I watched:
Office Space: I'm going to have to call OverHype on that one. I was expecting SOOOOO MUCH MORE! What a let down. The printer scene was funny though but it was just kinda blah for me.
Reccomend? No.
Se7en (Seven): Now seeing as I LOVE Brad Pitt, you'd think I would have already seen this movie. I never sat down and watched it properly. I'd only ever seen the start and the very end. It was really good though. Doesn't seem like something that was made in 1995. Everything was filmed very well and I liked both Freeman and Pitt's performance. I also liked you know who's performance but he tends to be good at roles such as that. All in all, after starting the new year with a bunch of crap movies besides Button, I had to go back over a decade to end the night with a good one.
Reccomend? Yes.

I just saw Gran Torino with my dad. I really liked it, (although I wish the ending went a different direction)
I saw it at the Warren Theater... The movie was in the "Grand Auditorium" which is completely awesome. The Screen took up the entire wall, and there's a balcony in which food is served (along with alchomahol, so you have to be 21 to even go up there.)
We got there 30 minutes early and sat down, we expected it to be crowded, but it wasn't too bad...
Until about 15 minutes later, in which people started filing in by the dozens. It turned out to be sold out, which made for some interesting seating adjustments... But the audience was pretty good.
Overall it was an ausom experience.

Nuking the fridge was ridiculous, but even worse than that was the vine-swinging. It's like this movie was a joke, a parody of what made Indiana Jones movies so beloved. It went fine for about 15 or so minutes, when suddenly the film started listing to the left, and then a big ol' cigarette burn melted it.

They explained it in the movie. When Bond is asking her stuff in a cave.
And I don't know what you're talking about, The Happening was incredible.
Incredibly funny hahaha. I loved the part where John Leguizamo is in the Jeep and they see the wind blowing. Suddenly he looks up and the camera does a close up of a tear in the canvas roof of the Jeep. So funny.
Another good part is when that crazy old lady decides to give them shelter and she appears out of nowhere on the guest house steps, asking Marky Mark if he's trying to steal something. He says with the goofiest expression, "what? NO!"

Watched In the Valley of Elah last night, didn't get all of it, the subtext is like trying to understand cowboy talk, that was my problem with No Country For Old Men, too much cowboy talk, and you get to the end and expect him to go hunt the guy down but no, cowboy talk... credits.

And Robo, there's no "religious" stuff in the Max Payne games, although there are a few references to Satanism.

I haven't been reading this thread. I checked back about 3 pages though and saw nothing about it, so here I go!
Slumdog Millionaire: This was by far, one of the best movies I've watched. I knew nothing about it whatsoever before I started watching it so I don't want to say too much about it. It's about an 18 year old young Indian boy who wins who wants to be a Millionaire. He's undeducated though and came from the slums, so the point of the movie is to explain how he wins. It was really, really, really good. I think it's still in theaters... I might go watch it on the big screen this time... >.> It's very interesting, mild action, a non-corny love story, humour and even dancing. Well worth the $10 theater price.
Reccomend? YES YES YES!

If Rourke doesn't get the Best Actor Oscar, something's going to get destroyed.
Truly amazing turn around for him. And the movie really makes you appreciate the hard work wrestlers put into their "fake" sport.

Rourke and Tomei were both great. They had good chemistry. They were both nominated for Best Actor and Best Actress, right? Hell, they deserve it.
You know who really impressed me, though? The girl who played Rourke's daughter. Who was she? I didn't catch her name in the credits, and I thought she was outstanding. I'm sure I could just as easily look her up on imdb.com, but...eh.

Just watched the Cowboy Bebop movie again. It still doesn't FEEL like Cowboy Bebop to me. At least not completely, it's like there's something missing. Plus I don't like the soundtrack. I think the Cowboy Bebop is plenty Beboppy. It feels like it's a great episode of the series, just extended. But, hey, whatever.

I love the Bebop movie soundtrack. It was just more Cowboy Bebop music. The only one that didn't quite fit was Ask DNA but, I love that song so it's alright.
I'm with Heiae, the movie just felt like an extended episode. The different feel that your talking about is most likely the way the movie was made. The series was made in 98' and the movie was made in 01'. There were some huge technical leaps in those few years.

Hmm I guess your right. As for the soundtrack I guess I got so used to the original it felt weird or something.
