Do you use VLC to watch anime? Yes? Are you a Mac user like me? Then you should be using MPlayer OSX Extended.

As some of you may know, I've been having a lot of issues with playing mkv files on VLC. The framerate stutters, the subtitles sometimes won't show up, and when they do, it's a total mess. The subtitles will sometimes overlap each other and the font is not too easy on the eyes. VLC also skips the first couple seconds of a video when I open up the program.

MPlayer OSX Extended is the Mac alternative to the Combined Community Codec Pack (CCCP). It works leaps and bounds better than VLC. No longer do I have to worry about playing mkv files. With a couple exceptions like Gundam 00, I can play any video file without problems.

What's the problem with Gundamn 00? Why doesn't it work?

It's because different subgroups use different codecs and encoding method.

On an unrelated side note, a few characters in the original Gundam's movie trilogy actually pronounce Gundam "Gun-Damn."

It made me giggle. Teehee.

The video lags along with the audio and the subtitles don't show up until seconds after a line of dialogue is spoken.

I'm running Vista and my VLC is experiencing some of those problems as well. The subtitles work fine, it's just the visual tends to freeze while the audio keeps moving. But I've only encountered those problems since I updated it a few months ago.

Not sure why I even mentioned this here.

I'm here to help. I recommend that you download the Combined Community Codec Pack here:

It's what my anime club uses to watch shows.
