It's back! Christmas is about a month away, so it's high time we brought a little joy and merriment to the Foxkei community with our second annual gift exchange.

If you're new to the community or if you don't remember the details of last year's gift exchange, here is last year's thread (http://foxkei.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1434). Please take a moment to read over my introductory post there.

Here is the abbreviated version. If you sign up for the gift exchange, you will be buying a gift for one person and receiving one gift from someone else. You will have one week to sign up for the gift exchange, after which you will have one week to send me your mailing address. Once I have collected everyone's addresses, I will pair up each Secret Santa with a gift recipient via random number generator. You will then send a gift to your designated gift recipient and receive your own gift from someone else. Only two people will know your mailing address -- me and your Secret Santa. That's the gist of it, but if you have questions, feel free to ask them here in this thread and we'll sort everything out.

Also, I shouldn't even have to say this, but please don't sign up for the gift exchange if you have no intention of participating. Those of you who were involved in last year's gift exchange should hopefully know what I'm referring to.

Now that all the boring details are out of the way, let's start gathering participants! If you would like to participate in the 2011 Foxkei Gift Exchange, please express your interest in this thread sometime in the next week. You will have until Friday, December 2nd, at 11:59 p.m. eastern time to sign up.

2011 Foxkei Gift Exchange Participants:
1.) SnakeEyez
2.) Chuko Liang
3.) Reverend Hobo
4.) Robobvious
5.) Ed209
6.) Chuypc
7.) WanderingMind

I'm going to assume one of the many questions I PMed you was a stupid one and that posting here that I am, in fact, participating in this whole thing is a good idea.

So, yes. I'm in.

I'll do it.

Oh wait, I forgot I don't do Christmas gifts...

But srs, I'll do it.

I finally have a job so yes, I'll totally do this! Can I change my mood to Christmasy?

P.S. I already picked out the wrapping paper, it's classy as fuck. You best be prepared for this art.

I'm in. SE, do you still have the addresses of people who participated last year, or should I send it again?

Yes I do. If you participated in last year's gift exchange and your mailing address hasn't changed since then, you won't need to send me your address again this year.

Last call, Foxkei! Tomorrow night is the deadline to sign up for the 2011 Foxkei Gift Exchange. If you'd like to participate, be sure to post in this thread before then.

Just posting here to say that I'm going to participate in the gift exchange. Hopefully nobody will try to send me cookies by mail this year.

Looks like that will do it then. We've got 7 people participating in the gift exchange this year. Time to spread a little holiday cheer!

Okay, here's what we do next. If you participated in last year's gift exchange, I have your mailing address saved in a Word document. I'll be sending a PM to each of you momentarily just to confirm that this is the address you want to use for the gift exchange. If you want to use a different address or if this is your first time participating in the gift exchange, I need you to send me a PM with your name and your mailing address.

I'm going to give everybody a week to get back in touch with me. Once I hear back from everyone, the gift exchange can begin. The deadline is Friday, December 9th, at 11:59 p.m. eastern time. If I don't hear back from you by then, you will be removed from the gift exchange. Don't dilly-dally too long now.

Here is the finalized list of participants. If there is anybody on this list that you don't want to be paired up, please let me know when you PM me.

2011 Foxkei Gift Exchange Participants:
1.) SnakeEyez
2.) Chuko Liang
3.) Reverend Hobo
4.) Robobvious
5.) Ed209
6.) Chuypc
7.) WanderingMind

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Okay, well, I've been waiting all week for WanderingMind to confirm his mailing address, but the bum hasn't even logged on to Foxkei since he entered the gift exchange, so I'm just going to proceed under the assumption that he wants to use the same address as last year. (EDIT: His address has now been confirmed.)

Let's start throwing some gifts at each other! I will be sending each of you a PM shortly containing the identity and mailing address of your gift recipient. My post in last year's topic summed up the next step well enough, so I'm just going to copy and paste it here.

The main idea behind the Secret Santa thing is to maintain the anticipation for as long as possible. You won't know who your Secret Santa is until your gift arrives, and the anticipation is half the fun, right? As such, I'd like to ask that we please refrain from contacting our respective gift recipients and spoiling the surprise. Don't let anyone know who you're buying gifts for.

Now I know what some of you are thinking: "Aw, jeez, I got paired up with so-and-so, but I have no idea what to get them." Obviously you can't just ask them what they want (since, again, you'd be spoiling the surprise for them by revealing that you are their Secret Santa), so here's what I propose we do. If you have a wishlist on Amazon or something, go ahead and link it here. You can also just list a few things you wouldn't mind receiving from your Secret Santa -- you know, just a few suggestions to get them started. On the flip side, if your gift recipient posts a list of suggestions, you don't have to buy them something from that list if you happen to have something else in mind.

That should cover just about everything. As always, just post in here if you have any questions. Once you receive your PM from me, you can commence with the Christmas shopping whenever you'd like. The post office gets really busy during this time of year, though, so don't wait too long.

To my Secret Santa, here is my list of suggestions if you're having trouble figuring out what to get me. If you have something else in mind that you think I'd like, that's fine too.
Anything from my Backloggery wishlist (http://www.backloggery.com/games.php?user=SnakeEyez&wish=1) (Except "Professor Layton and the Last Specter" since I suspect that my sister is getting that for me)

Wishlist:

http://www.whatpumpkin.com/godtier-hoodies.html

The Hero Of Space Hoody from that link, or the Hero of Light one, or the Hero of Void, to a lesser extent. The T-Shirts aren't something I need or want (I have so many already) but I could use another pullover hoody, size XL. $35.00. I'd have bought it already had I a method to do so. I was going to just put /list after that one thing, but I think perhaps more things would be a good idea...so...

Note that were I to get one Hero of Space or Hero of Light are equally acceptable, and I'd take any of those, but I really would much prefer Hero of Space or Hero of Light over the rest by quite a lot. And they're the same price, so...

I wear hooded sweatshirts alllll the time.

John Dies At The End:
I was already kind of interested before I looked into it a little. Oh man. I need to read this book.

Novel by Brian Clevinger (guy who wrote atomic robo, 8BT, etc.) called “Nuklear Age” that is a massive huge novel of awesome. Or so I hear.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 2. (PC)

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection. I have an HDTV now. I need this, thusly. (PS3)

I might add more later. Can't think of anything else I want as much as this stuff.

To my gift recipient: Your gift has been ordered from Amazon and should arrive no later than December 19th.

Also, once you guys receive your gifts, don't forget to post in this thread to tell everybody what you got! Once you see that your gift recipient has received his gift, you can reveal your Secret Santa status if you so desire.

Dear Secret Santa,

I like being surprised, and figure I'll like whatever you get me, so I'm just gonna give you some general ideas to roll with, but don't be afraid to get me something not mentioned on here.

My three favorite game series are The Legend of Zelda, Resident Evil, and Metal Gear Solid. If you want to run in that direction I have yet to pick up Skyward Sword, or the HD bundles for either RE or MGS. I also think the MGS action figures are pretty rad, and don't own any currently.

I'm into comics and books, and happen to own a nook. Can't go wrong with a Barnes and Noble gift card, also I have yet to pickup the last book in the Paolini's Inheritance Cycle and want to check it out. I think Chuck Palahniuk is awesome but I don't own any of his books yet. If comics be yer' foray and you have a certain superhero you think is rad send 'em my way! But you also can't go wrong with an assortment of back-room 25 cent comics either.

Lately Modest Mouse has been my favorite band, and I've also been listening to Dr. Dog, Cults, Fleet Foxes, and The Killers. I currently don't own any cd's by these artists though. I grew up listening to mostly Rock and Roll and the only genre I have a general dislike for is Country. If you wanted to make something that's rad too, I love getting mix cd's from friends to find new music to listen too.

I'd love to own the last season of Moral Orel on dvd, and I tend to think anything with H. Jon Benjamin or Brendon Small is great.

I think I'm mostly good on clothes except I could really use a new heavy hoodie. You know how some hoodies you wear weigh next-to nothing but offer very little warmth? That's the kind I have right now. If you're wondering about my build I'm average, about 5'10" tall with a 30" waist.

Anyways that's all I got for ideas but I think there's enough material there for you to roll with. Thanks for being my Secret Santa, whoever you are! And a happy holidays to all of Foxkei!

Thanks to what I am sure is some kind of magic, to the extent either a god REALLY smiled on someone, or a rather large sacrifice to a dark and evil entity, the package I was sent was recieved TODAY. By the U.S. mail, no less!

Is there any greater wonder?

There is. The greater wonder is what was INSIDE the package.

A book. But not just a book. John Dies At The End.

Alright. Awesome. I opened it rather than wait til a more conventional time to open it because I was barely conscious and the package's biggest lettering said "Dallas" so I assumed my relatives in texas had sent me a bunch of christmas cards. In a bubble wrapped package. Yeah. Not really thinking clearly at the time.

So I opened it. I saw the book. I instantly knew what must be done.

I must read and conquer it.

I have high hopes. This book might even have a part that is funnier than the previous leader of "Funniest part of a novel that is not simply a comedy", which was held by war and peace, as memory serves...

Whoever sent this to me (as it of course isn't obvious at all) is an awesome person and has my thanks.

I have a book to read. I have a legitimately scary and also hilarious tale to read, it seems.

I don't know how that is possible. But now. Now I will see.

Checking a few other things before diving in. Will likely write about the book in the book thread.

Dear Secret Santa...I'll just cut the crap and get down to business

A gift card from Barnes and Noble, Amazon, Gamestop or any place like that would be cool.

As for games, I've got a DS and a PS3. I mainly play RPGs , but here's a short list of affordable games I am interested in (not in any order):

Mass Effect 2
Demon's Souls
Heavy Rain
Bayonetta
Star Ocean The Last Hope international
Final Fantasy XIII
Uncharted 2

Books:

A storm of swords by George R R Martin
The Forsyte Saga by John Galsworthy
The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas
The Honorable Schoolboy by John Le Carre
Romance of the three kingdoms by Luo Guanzhong
The Hobbit by JRR Tolkein

I hope that helps, happy hunting.

JesterDK

Demon's Souls
Heavy Rain

Romance of the three kingdoms by Luo Guanzhong

I like these things. Especially the latter two. The Three Kingdoms era of Chinese history is pretty damn interesting, and I've read through the Romance more than once... (there's a lot. It's easy to forget things)

After delays, troubles, communication errors and finally confirmation and acquisition, a long harrowing story fit to rest alongside those of the great heroes of myth and legend, I now have the package I am sending to the person I am sending it to sealed and address'd, with both address parts filled.

I did have to ask how to properly put each address and where they went, but now, now the mission is almost complete.

Should be hitting the mail today. Considering the US mail service it may arrive tomorrow, or it might arrive in three months. Accursed US mail, my deadliest foe.

I opened up my mailbox today to find not one, but two gifts: this nifty pair of ear buds (http://amzn.to/tjUH5p) and muhfuggin' Bioshock for the XBox 360! Both packages came with a little note from Robobvious, the greatest Secret Santa in the whole wide world. Thank you very much, Rob. I will definitely put both of them to good use. And yes, I promise that I will play Bioshock in the dark.

Alright, let's review. The following people have received their gifts:
SnakeEyez
Chuko Liang
Ed209
Chuypc

The following people have not received their gifts:
Reverend Hobo
Robobvious
WanderingMind

Chuko and Ed209 have both reported that they've had problems shipping their gifts, so if your name is on the second list, there is a 2/3 chance that your gift has been shipped and will probably arrive after Christmas.

No problem, actually a third package should arrive at some point if it hasn't already. It won't have a note though, it came from a third party seller through amazon who didn't offer the option. I hope everyone had a great month with the people they love, and a Merry Christmas to all!

After a series of delays and annoyances, I've finally sent my gift out. Hopefully this time they'll actually ship it out, lol. My apologies for all the delays. I hope you enjoy it when you get it. Geeze, what mess.

Edit: It should be there by Jan. 4...if they feel like it.

No biggie, Christmas only comes once a year. I would have sent it all as one box o' fun if I'd had the time to ship it here and properly wrap it the way I would've liked, but there's always next year!

Edit: Thanks a million, Ed! I can't tell you how long I've been waiting for this book. I've already read almost 200 pages and it's great so far! No worries about the delays at all, Christmas is stressful enough without dealing with shit from the post office.
