I found this article about 4 pretty neat game controllers.

http://www.gamesradar.com/f/hands-on-with-crazy-cool-new-controllers-for-street-fighter-iv-hawx-rock-band-2/a-2009011415173713057

I actually contemplated getting the SFIV stick, even though I don't really play fighters.

I think I've seen those on EBGames' website.

I feel that if we're going to talk about controllers, I need to bring up my favorite ever (aside from the 1st party SNES controller): The Pelican AfterGlow Pro PL-691 for the PS2. Its just... awesome. See for yourself. The start and select buttons cleverly blend in to the black plastic piece on the center of the front, and at the same time giving it a neat look. The standard buttons are a bit smaller than the Sony brand controller's, and the digital pad is slightly more sensitive (though nowhere as overly-sensitive as the 360 controller's pad). The R1 and L1 buttons are larger. And on the back, you can see the cream of the crop: the offset R2 and L2 buttons. They are perfectly placed to allow your middle fingers to both balance the controller and still use the second set of shoulder buttons as readily and easily as the first. The black grips on the sides are made out of a different plastic than the rest of the controller (the same as the material used for the analog sticks), and don't promote slipping due to SHGS, or Sweaty-Hand Game Sessions. The back of the controller is contoured to allow for a more comfortable gripping posture. Oh, and it glows blue. Sweet huh?

I want to learn to play ace combat with a stick. That'd be so much awesome.

edit: RW, is that the controller you wanted me to buy? I wish I could've found it...

I'm actually getting the normal fight stick for SF4....for the tourny edition is way over my price range, 150 bucks??? no thank you.

But damn...that hawx stick looks sick....I wonder if my friends will consider giving me ace combat 6.

Yes.

Yep, I love this thing like a son. And I promote it whenever I get the chance. I had the first edition of this controller too. It lacked the black grips and decorative front, and had a line of wires that glowed blue instead of the lights. Otherwise it was the same. Sadly, my brother threw it and broke it during a game of SOCOM. I am still pissed to this day. I loved that controller like a daughter. Alas, I made him buy me a new one, and the one you see up there is what he got me.

Controllers huh?

Alucards doesn't used unlicensed controllers...(Stuff without the Playstation or Nintendo logos...to show that they are tested and approved. I've heard things about 3rd party unlicensed hardware pulling the wrong amounts of power or something from the console...)

Though I do own quite a few...

But here are some odd controllers I have...

My Chun-Li Playstation controller: (I bought this one...for obvious reasons)

http://www.the-nextlevel.com/reviews/ps2/street-fighter-anniversary-collection/sf-ps2-controller-chun-li.jpg

My Silver Dual Shock 2: (not odd...but this is my controller of choice...it's my baby...I had a working black one...but this one is silver...so I bought it anyway...No picture neccesary...I imagine you know what it looks like...)

PS2 Spider Pad: (Given to me by a friend)

http://www.gamingtarget.com/images/media/Accessories/Naki_Marvel_Spider-Pad/001.jpg

Pelican Retro Shock 2: (I bought this for $4 at Target as my brother needed another controller for a 4 player game of some kind...so I went and fetched this...cause Target was desperate to get rid of them...haven't used it since....mine is blue)

http://depotcomputers.com/images/PELPL600.gif

SN Programpad: (I can't even recall where I got this piece of crap...This SNES pad is has Auto fire and slow down buttons and is supposed to allow you to program different button combinations into the 3 buttons surrounding the face...so you can push one of those and trigger the sequence automatically. (I.E. Do a fatality without trying...) But it never worked right...not to mention the controller sucks as a normal controller...)

http://aramir.uw.hu/Konzol_joy/snes_sn_programpad.jpg

Dreamcast Astropad: (mine is green...I never use it...unless we play DC Spawn on 4 player...someone gets stuck with it...but due to it's size...seriously...the picture does not do it's width justice...it's been given the nickname "Spare Tire" around my house....)

Oh yeah, I got the Ken version of what Alucard has.
http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk247/f3n9888/sf-ps2-controller-ken.jpg
I keep it in the box. Heheh..

Also, Red, I have the regular version of that controller. The non-glowing type. I love the placement of the R2 and L2 buttons.

I used to own this controller a long time ago:

(Got it when I renewed my Nintendo Power subscription...for the umpteenth time)

ALUCARDS Weird Controllers round 2!

NES2 "Dog Bone" Controller: (Came with my Top Loader NES...which I have had since they were released...that's right...my top loader has only ever seen one owner! To bad I use my Box NES....the Top Loader sits in a drawer...Add that to the 3 normal NES pads I own...the Dpad is super stiff on this thing though...even after owning it so long....) Don't mind the USB plug...some guy is obviously converting it for use...

http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/694/dbxe2.jpg

Logitech Dual Action PC controller: (Despite how functional it appears...the Dpad is super loose...the whole thing is meh...)

http://www.mrgadget.com.au/catalog/images/logitech_dual_action_gamepad.gif

Saitek P220 PC Controller: (Better! Mine is blue...but it's a good PC pad...The Dpad could be better but it's a good pad)

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41G753QB17L._SL500_AA280_.jpg

Saitek Rumble Force: (BEST! This controller rocks...My PC pad of choice...but it floats around the house...so sometimes I have to use the other Saitek pad...)

http://s3.amazonaws.com/wootsaleimages/Saitek_P2600_Rumble_Force_First_Person_Shooter_Gam epadqwdDetail.jpg

Logitech Gran Turismo Driving Force GT PS2 Wheel: (This expensive as hell wheel...rocks. Ridiculous levels of Force Feedback (That in GT can be customized) make this wheel fight you like a real car...I wish the shift stick were a little more real though...and that it came with a mounting device...cause having to find a table to use is a pain...The pedals are good..and even have tension and a claw to grip carpet so they don't move...)

I have one of those. The wells that the sticks are embedded in are semisquared at the corners. Kinda makes them useless, as even the simplest commands (QCF included!) are hard as hell to do on it for some reason, much less those patented SNK flippy-dippy pretzel commands. The pad isn't that much better either. I thought it was broken, actually, due to how loose it is; I opened it up to find out that's how it's supposed to be. : /

On that note, anyone know of any stores that may sell USB Dual Shock converters? I know they exist...

EDIT: Whoops, mine is a different type of Dual Action, I guess: it has a more defined pad cross and three middle buttons (stick on/off, 9, and 10). Still the same control though.

I think I still have one of these around. A Microsoft Sidewinder Freestyle Pro. You know when Microsoft said they did the motion controller first? Yeah, this was the controller. The motion controlling didn't work very well. I used it for Motocross Madness (came with the controller), Midtown Madness and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit.

I'm surprised I still have that thing around. I never keep crap around that I don't use.

I also had one of these too. A Logitech Formula GP Racing Wheel. I broke the gas pedal, Heheheheeee

God, I can't stand GamesRadar...but, that's another discussion.

Where's the Virtual Boy? That thing was heavenly.

I used to have one. Mario Tennis was the only game I played for that system.

RimDot
01-16-2009, 02:57 AM
Wasn't Mario Tennis the only game released for it? I can't think of another game that came out for the thing.

Virtual Boy also isn't a controller. What was it, though? A portable? No, too big and who would want to be seen with it. Home console? No, Who in there right mind would play it at home.

...Man, That thing was just really bad.

I've never played one, just seen pictures. If I ever see one for $5 at a garage sale or something, I'm gonna pick it up.

There was a Wario game and a Pinball game that literally made my eyes BLEED!

Well, they were bloodshot the next day at least.

COINCIDENCE?!!?!

There were only about 14 or so games for VB, I think. I hate that system just for the fact that Gunpei Yokoi most likely offed himself due to its failure...

This controller talk reminds me of the time I got a cheap PS1 digital pad. It was a generic one from "Babbages" back when they were still around.

The d-pad fell off the controller after a week (no glue?). So we had to improvise.

We drilled a screw into the d-pad area and VOILA, the first analog stick controller was born.

I also had an SNES controller that used a "touch" d-pad. There were no moving parts, it was a completely flat surface similar to a laptop touch pad.

Pretty fun, although I'm sure the controller had lag issues.
