This is the most sensible theory I have ever read for why FF8 made no sense.

It seems perhaps maybe they played a little too much Final Fantasy X.

I think the problem with VIII was Squall....but more because Laguna should have been the star...

Perhaps what was worse was the innuendo of them not just saying they were Father and Son....

But I cannot agree. Everything else would just not make sense in the end.

Honestly, I think it's an admittedly well-thought out theory that may actually be able to make the story somewhat make sense.

However, I don't think squeenix had any of that shit in mind when they crapped out 8. It seems to me like a case of a rather intelligent and observant person seeing patterns and explanations in a random and poorly written script.


As an example, once while at a bookstore I found a book that basically did the same thing for Harry Potter. It was published after the 4th book came out, and analyzed them pretty deeply and had a big section in the back that offered a bunch of theories on twists and events that might be revealed in the later books. The book interested me so much I bought it. I actually liked the Harry Potter books and have read all of them, and I got them wondering if the book I had would be right.

But as it turned out, the last book had the cliched "Oh no! He's dead- oh wait, no he's not." ending that was pretty fucking disappointing, and didn't have even a slight inkling towards any of the pretty awesome twists they had suggested.

Final Fantasy VIII's plot actually makes sense now! Huzzah!

I'm almost positive that this isn't the explanation that the designers had in mind when they made the game, but I like it much better than the original. Besides, the commonly accepted explanation isn't always the best (that's called the intentional fallacy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intentional_fallacy)). Who gives a fig what the "official" plot is when this one makes so much more sense, you know?

Also, faceless Squall is creepy as hell. Holy shit.
