View Full Version : Tales of an Alaskan nomad

So, getting back into the forum groove...gotta get my post count back up.
I performed a wonderous deed yesterday of great karma.
I was headed to the arcade with some friends, and apparently JD had to take a girl home because her bus wouldn't get her home in time to get ready for work. Well, we stopped at Wal-Mart for somethin', and it was freezing balls outside.
Now, me being who I am, I first thought, "She's obviously cold. Perhaps one of us men should give up a jacket for her..."
JD, being the douchebag he is, didn't give her either of the two coats he was wearing. Yep, two. He tried to defend this today by saying she refused, but really, you give her your coat anyways. Don't take no for an answer!
I stepped in, whipped off my coat in one smooth motion, and draped it around her. She smiled and put it on.
On the way to the arcade after dropping the girl off, one of my homies spoke up:
"Alaska, where the hell's your coat?!"
"...Wait a second..."
And so, this girl had my coat. No biggie, get it tomorrow.
Except she forgot it today. I had to go up to her workplace and get it from her (I arranged the pickup prior, so it wasn't a sudden pop-in).
Funny enough, I didn't mind: a cute girl wants to steal my jacket, by all means!

Nomad?
You have a house... I've been inside of it.

There are many types of nomads reverand, maybe there are those who travel in the vicinity of their house??
Either way, you gotta be smooth/kind with the ladies, even if the temperature is extremely low.

Yay, awesome points!
Also, today's entry is short but sweet.
Spent most of the day nonviolently protesting having to buy a damn lanyard for my ID tag. It's on my collar, so why does it matter? Not like the damn things are being used for anything anyways...also realized that the "rib" sandwiches at my school are not much more than processed hamburger shaped into ribs and slapped onto a hoagie bun. Not that good, even with four different dressings (ranch, mayo, mustard, BBQ) and cheddar cheese.
Got home, hooked my Wii back up (haven't played it since the last time I was over at Chuko's place for epic Brawl party). Popped in No More Heroes, played a bit, went to the Thunder Ryu building...
And laughed my ass off. Anyone else notice the music in there is pretty much Eye of the Tiger?
Also, picked up some job applications last night while I was waiting for Clair to find my coat in the back room at Pizza Hut. She seemed to be a little bit excited that I was looking to get myself employed there, so here's hoping for the best.

'Tis true...
I used to be a loser (I was still awesome, but a loser nontheless) when I was smooth-cheeked, but once this magnificent face fur grew in, I knew what it was to be a man.

Well, I have a slight beard (don't listen to Hobo and Chuko: it's NOT a pubebeard!)...
And it appears women are starting to notice it. Today, I had at least three chicks flirtin' with me. I don't know how or why it happened, but out of nowhere these pretty cute girls started being all flirtatious and such. Maybe it's the beard. Maybe it's the fact that I'm 17 days away from being 18. Who knows?

Actually, it is a pretty curly crop of hair I'll admit. But it's something, y'know. Chicks seem to be suddenly digging it. Without any facial hair, I look like I'm 14. With it, I was actually seated at the bar once at a restaurant. I didn't take the seat, of course, being a morally just person.

Odd little things happened today.
Had a girl that I know (who I'm not attracted to) text me during class today with the following (note that we were talking at the time about something completely different):
"Do you like me as JUST a good friend?!"
I was so lost and confused.
"...Not really. No offense."
"S'okay, I'm just venting."
WHAT THE HELL DOES VENTING HAVE TO DO WITH BEING ALL PANTY-MOIST FOR ME?!
Also, started playing Gauntlet. Got to stage 30 before I quit and loaded up Robotron again.
AlucardsFate

Saying "No Offense" doesn't mean you didn't hurt her feelings...
She obviously likes you...
You could have let her down easier though...say something like...
"I do value you as a friend, and I do not want to jeopardize that. I'd rather be your friend then not know you at all..."

Recent week's log:
People suck. Long story that I don't want to get into at the moment (not to mention it's really personal), but it's pretty disgusting morally.
Otherwise, the awesomeness was performed again today. This time, I walked into my 3rd hour, and this real sweet girl was sitting there shivering, mainly because it was below freezing. I look around...
At least three guys in there with heavy coats, all sitting there bundled up while this poor girl freezes.
EPIC MOVE PERFORMED. I got a lot of dirty looks from the other guys, but hell, they weren't attempting to give her their gigantic down jackets.
This time, though, I was asked if I wanted my coat back after class.
"Nah...I'll be fine. Living in Anchorage for ten years conditioned me to this weather. You need it more than me."
"Aww...thanks. : 3 "
I got it back after school (she was just about to get on the bus, and she saw me, so she ran up to me and handed it to me with a smile on her face and a very sincere "thanks!").
GOOD KARMA GET.

UNH MISSION IS ALMOST COMPLETE.
Today, in Debate, I found out that on Tuesday, we're having a 2v2 argument. I was assigned a partner...
And with my sudden great luck, Mrs. Day paired me and Kim up. (the girl I gave my coat to yesterday)
Coincidence? I think not. After class, I was heading out the south building...
"Hey Chris, wait up!"
Turn around, Kim's coming towards me.
"Since we're working on this case together...nah, forget it."
"No, what?"
"Well...I was thinking that it'd probably be best if we exchanged numbers so that we could work on it outside of school...*blush*"
"...Sure!"
The delivery of the line, plus the little red-faced moment...GOOD CHANCES HAS I. I haven't called her yet (gonna do that in an hour or two), but wish me luck!

GO CRUNKMAN GO. MISSION IS RIGHT THERE ON THE COMPLETION BORDER.
Currently on the phone with her. We're making idle banter. She's sadly grounded so no go on a movie this weekend.
EDIT: Got off the phone just a second ago. 45 minutes of talking about the most random things: games, books, school, and various other subjects. She even got real personal with me about her past, something most girls tend to not do the first time I call them, especially ones who are "just friends" (which will change soon, I bet). Have not made any other advances, but on Tuesday, I think I may very well ask her out.
Crunkman2000
01-23-2009, 02:29 AM
Sorry for the delay in update and double post.
So I actually did get to take her to a movie. We saw Valkyrie (her choice, not mine; I wanted to see Gran Torino, since I saw Valk already with Chuko and some other homies). I didn't realize how emotional that movie can be until I saw Kim crying at the end of it. Powerful stuff.
ANYWAYS. Afterwards, we were walking towards Target (it's right across the street from the theater we were at), and I notice that she's cold. Once again, I pull my EPIC SMOOTH move. She smiles and takes my coat and wears it until I drop her off before heading over to Walker's for his b-day party.
I wake up the next morning on Walker's couch, and I'm sick as a dog. Coughing stuff up, can barely breathe or move. Methinks I should be a little more careful when being smooth. BUT THAT IS NOT MATTER because I have more good karma now. And I'm almost over being sick as hell.
So this week's been pretty good other than some depressing stuff. But I post enough depressing events, I think. Time to start being positive!
Also, planned out my b-day party. Gonna get a group together for foodstuff at Buffalo Wild Wings, then head to either my house or someone else's for Brawl and maybe some other games. Sadly, Kim can't go, which is suck, because hey, it'd be epic to have a hottie that I'm into over at my place for the night... ; D

So I asked out another chick today. Real sweet babe. Great friend of mine.
"So...I have a question. It'll sound stupid. You single?"
"Yeah..."
"You, uh, lookin' for someone to fill that spot in your heart on V-day?"
"Yeah, but I got dumped last week...I'm not really ready to start dating again...just tired of being hurt. Not that you would hurt me, it's just...I'm still uneasy."
"Ah...that's cool. I follow the two-week rule anyways. A girl's gotta have her space when stuff like that happens."
"Thanks...I appreciate it."
Seemed legit to me. I figured I'd take a shot since every time I've talked to this girl, she's been pretty, uh...what's the word I'm lookin fer...amorous? Not the shoving-her-hand-down-my-pants amorous, but that indescribable "wants me more than a friend but is on the border of friend and lover" kind.

Ah, what a great V-Day.
Spent it around a bunch of nerds with the intent to play DnD. It degenerated into fist fights and Brawl.
Oh, and I bruised my hand. Hobo and PSM can attest, my middle left knuckle looked pretty damn bad last night, a gigantic multicolored welt. I thought it was fractured, to be honest. Just a bruise, thank god.
And I didn't get to spend it with that girl I've been after. She was stuck babysitting for a relative. : (

UPDATE TIIIIIIME.
Last night, I was hanging with Hobo and another homie, when my cell rang. Now, I have three groups divided by ringtone. Friends have some generic rock, family has this abrasive, loud beat, and chicks are a smooth jazz.
'Twas jazz, which I was shocked at because most of the girls I know text me instead of calling. I answered, it was the girl I've been after.
"Yo?" "You busy?" "Yeah, hanging with Dippy and the Reverend." "Oh? You want to come to the mall with me and Dippy's girlfriend?" "...Yes." "Alrighty then!"
(Sorry Hobo, for ditching you like that. I'll make up for it later this week!)
Anyways, I went, was a good time. I got dragged into a candy store, and Kelly bought about $50 worth of stuff. I was a little apprehensive as to why she bought that much, and I didn't see any of it besides the bags of rock candy and sour stuff she got...but that's beside the point. I went mainly to find a comic/collectibles shop JD was telling me about. I saw it...
and got dragged into a photo booth to get my picture taken with Kelly.
So today, between second and third period, I ran into her near the south building.
"Hey, whasup?" "Hold my books for a sec, will ya?" "...Okay?"
She spent almost $20 on buying me stuff. I didn't see it, but she bought me a bunch of chocolate, a huge-ass Pixy Stix-type thing (seriously, it's at least 4 feet long), and a pack of Big League Chew (because I had told her last night while we were in the store that I had never had it).
All as a late v-day gift. I felt (kinda) terrible, because all I bought her was a small Reeses heart worth $5. : /
And yes, Dippy is JD. I just refer to him as such because I cannot think of a nickname.

After I pay off my debt to Hobo ($5 standing b/c he got an awesome deal on some 40k stuff), I'll then have to work around the house to make some cash and gain myself a fatter wallet for movie money ($11 for two tickets), food (about $13 for two burger meals at A&W), and some other stuff...
No, not those. Yet.

Yeah. Just look for a recipe you think sounds great and try it. Cooking's not hard at all, I love it. Just try not to do too much stuff at the same time. Or get someone to help you prep everything and maybe cook or prepare something that can be done a few hours before or something, that way you ca make sure not to screw it up.

Walker, you lucky little bastard.
You are so damn lucky you're one of my brothers-from-another-mother. I laugh and give an e-high five.
I have learned that he apparently has won over the heart of a certain girl.
That of a girl which I was after just a few weeks ago.
In all seriousness, I am proud of him for taking a chance. Also, without me he wouldn't be where he is now, because I had to introduce them. So in the end, I still positive karma get.

WHAT I'VE FELT, WHAT I'VE KNOWN, NEVER SHINED THROUGH WHAT I'VE SHOWN
never be, never see, walker's been dubbed unforgiven!
Why?
I'm proud of Bechtal here taking the stance he did. She likes Walker, them's facts, Walker didn't do it maliciously. He never said "Dude, you know that Kim girl Bechtal likes? I'm totally gonna get her, just to spite him."
One thing that's always irked me is when a guy either loses out, or breaks up with a girl and freaks out when another dude (especially a friend) happens to get together with her. If she likes someone else, she likes someone else. There's nothing you can do about it, and getting angry or malicious towards that person is stupid and childish. She's not an object that was "stolen", she's a person who makes decisions.
I'd say I'm more proud of Becthal for being a man about all this than I would be if he made it with ten women.

...holy crap. I think that's the first time Hobo has ever seriously praised me.
So onto today's log:
I woke up this morning, got ready for school, started to head out the front door...
"Wait, where's my ID card at?"
Ran back inside, looked all over the house for about half an hour, couldn't find it, gave up after I realized I'd missed my bus and went to school. Bought a new one ($5).
Got on the bus after school...and the driver handed me my old ID.
"If you'da caught the bus this mornin', you'da had this!"
"...Seriously? I...I just wasted $5."
"Well, you've got a backup now!"
"FFFFFFF---"
Otherwise meh day. Got 40+ note cards to write over the weekend, so no social life for me besides this Saturday...

Soooo tired.
Went to my senior prom last night. Spent part of it depressed and lonely, then said "FUG IT" and danced with as many girls as I could find for a while. A few of them seemed interested in me, but I saw them leaving with other guys. No biggie.
Went to IHOP afterwards and had my first cup of coffee in a week. Two cups today, and I realize how sad it is that I'm slowly breaking myself of caffiene. I actually had to drink a huge glass of water after the second cup.
I shouldn't need a damn chaser for my coffee, but whatever.
Also, I've got my eye on yet another chick (who didn't go to prom for some reason). Gonna work my game tomorrow and see what happens.

Didn't have a chance to game today. I blame Chavez and her "give you work in a foreign language when there's two minutes of class left" habit. That and the fact that I got stuck behind some douchebag who thought it'd be funny to stand in my way. No joke, guy stood right in front of me, blocking me from getting out the door and getting to the girl in question as she made her way down the stairs.
BUT! Tomorrow and Thursday nights, the senior-directed One Acts happen, and this girl is a stage manager for one of the shows that I'm doing backstage work on. Question is, do I do it after tomorrow's show (which happens at 7 or so) or Thursday (when it's at 9)? On one hand, it could be awkward to sit there in the same room as her (even though it's an auditorium...) if she says no tomorrow. ON THE OTHER, if she says no Thursday, then I only have to deal with awkward for about another hour, and not have to work with her on stuff for another night...
But that's pessimistic bullcrap. I should always hope for the best!

Sounds good, right? Here's the catch:
They expected me to pay $145 for a set of demo knives to use at these appointments. Also, I doubt that high pay would actually come to me, considering taxes...so I'd probably make about $80 per paycheck with my luck.
So despite all my complaints about not having a job, about not having money, I refused. Because they expected me to PAY to work there.

Rant time GO! There's anti-50 Cent speak in here, so yeah. Viewer discretion advised etc etc.
I think one reason why I meet so many people who hate fighting games is because of this:
From my experience, there's three classifications of fighter fans: the honest, "play for fun," generally nice guys who will sit down and teach you the game rather than school you and make you feel like an idiot. Generally also play games that don't involve constant D,DF,F motions.
The pompous, professional, play-to-win types who think that you should know every little thing about the game after playing for a week, IE Tekken worshippers or those who dedicate every waking hour to coming up with terminology to confuse newer players (don't get me started on how the GG community does move notation...)
and then there's Mortal Kombat fans. MK fans, from my experience, are a lot like 50 Cent/Aftermath/G-Unit fans.
Both idolize and worship their respective fandoms.
Both act like their fandom is king of the world.
Both have a tendency to talk in gibberish; G-Unit fans in their everyday life, MK fans on message boards.
And both constantly try to justify their respective fandom's sheer suck by saying "TEH NXTE OEN WHELL BE BETTAR" when they themselves should know...
Neither of these fandoms were good from the start.
Anyways, got a job interview on Wednesday...hope that all works out.
EDIT: And my ex just tried to guilt trip me by claiming I'm a vindictive asshole who was only interested in pussy.
Funny, because I turned down boot-knockin' on multiple ocassions with her because it was way too early in the relationship for it.
And now she has a kid after being with a guy for a few months. OH IRONY OF IRONIES.

4 weeks, 40 hours per week, after 10% tax (guessing here), be making $1066 per month.

Crunkman2000
07-10-2009, 08:32 PM
Well...as Hobo and PSM can attest, I HATE THIS JOB. Rant mode go!
Let's see, where to start...
I never have a set time to clock out. As in, it's up to my manager when I get off. This means I could potentially work a 12 hour shift. So far it's been mostly 4 hour shifts, but I work a double today (11-1, and then 5-"Whenever the rush dies down").
The person training me is a condescending lazy moron. I appear to be one of the few people who actually earns the pay, because I do everything at once, and somehow I still get my head bit off because I'm not doing everything fast enough. Example:
Today, I went out into the lobby to clean up a salsa spill and change out the salsa bowls for "fresh" ones (fresh meaning "dump the old salsa on top of the new". Eugh). Keep in mind I was also working one of the registers at this time, but there were no customers.
A couple people come in, so I stop and go to help them. I get up to the register after these people wait a bit (patiently, at that) and my manager starts bitching right in front of customers.
"WHY WEREN'T YOU UP HERE AT YOUR REGISTER"
BECAUSE YOU TOLD ME TO CLEAN UP A SALSA SPILL OUT ON THE FLOOR SO YOU WOULDN'T GET SUED YOU DUMBARSE.
This whole time, he's standing in the back opening boxes. When he could go and take care of at least one of the problems himself. : /
5). Customers are mentally disabled.
I rang up an order that consisted of 5 tacos, a bean burrito, and a drink. I read the order back to the customer TWICE, and both times she said "yeah, that's what I ordered." Course, she got whiny because I apparently was taking too long to ring her up.
She gets her order, comes back up and starts pissing and moaning.
"I DIDN'T GET MY CHICKEN QUESADILLA."
What quesadilla? Exactly. She didn't order one.
And of course, manager gets pissy.
"READ THE ORDER BACK NEXT TIME."
I. FRICKING. DID. TWICE, YOU GODDANG DOUCHENOZZLE. SHE DIDN'T ORDER A FLIPPIN' QUESADILLA.>=(

Just a few weeks ago, we were talking about our love lives, and we somehow came to the conclusion that if I just wait a little longer, she'll be ready to start dating again...mainly dating me.
So yeah. Good things come to those who wait. YEAH. Life's turned around for me...awesome.
Beware of the friend zone. Don't close the door behind you or you'll never come out...

Much-needed update time.
Got a job at Target and no longer work at Mayo for realz. $7.50 an hour, and I actually like the job. Sure, I'm working the food court, but it's better than Mayo...at least I get breaks and can call in sick if I need to.

Sigh...I hate my life sometimes.
I finally got a reissue of my debit card (my old one disappeared on me), and I used it at Taco Bell. Once. Seemed just fine, everything worked a-ok. Still have at least $145 in my account.
THEN, that same day, I go up to Taco Bell again with some friends...
"Your card keeps getting declined."
"...Why? I have money, it's brand new...it read in the ATM earlier (not that that mattered because I have no PIN for this card yet)"
So I tried it again yesterday when I went to see Inglorious Basterds.
"It's declined."
"...God DAMN customer service."
I just spent an hour on the phone listening to "sorry all reps are busy plz wait"
before throwing my phone down and deciding to go up to the bank myself and find out why the hell my card suddenly is borked.

That sucks. Credit cards can be a pain. I need to get a Visa/Debit card though...

BORKED
Yeah. I was there. It sucked.

Wow...you're manager sounds like a major asshole.
Isn't that in nearly every manager's job description?

Yeah, I would think so.

Update time.
Obviously, I figured out my card problem (it wasn't activated, hurr). I now have a good sized account. Next week I'll be getting a check for roughly $500.
Which brings me to work stuff:
Screw this job.
No, really. Some guy got caught stealing from the register, so now there's three people who work in the food court. Me, some other guy who does his job mostly, and some fat bitch who thinks she's God. She comes in late every day, leaves early, and whines nonstop. I work almost every day. I closed last night (3-10:00), and as Hobo can attest, that was BS. So they scheduled me to open today at 7.
I had an hour of sleep. Joy. And I close tomorrow.
ANYWAYS! After I got off work (at 3:10), I had to drive about five miles to Mustang to see my girlfriend and give her a gift for our first whole month of being together (yes, that girl I mentioned before; she did in fact wait for me. ;) ). Now, she's still in high school, and not only does she have a job, but her mom is ubernaziesque. So I had to speed.
Got to the high school area, traffic jam.
"Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck this."
I got out my car, RAN the rest of the way. Got there at 3:25, saw her, handed her the gift (it was a necklace that I bought during lunch).
Despite my legs being numb, my hour of sleep, my lack of energy, the fact that I'm slightly overweight and a bad runner, my already pounding heart rate, AND the heat (I wear a heavy red polo, a t-shirt, and heavy khakis), I still ran. Just to see her smile. I told her I'd get there or die trying. I almost did.
You can figure out what happened after that.

Ahh, someone stole your car when you were out. Hate it when that happens...

What did I tell you about running? It's for people who need to be healthy. Never you mind I sprinted most of the way from walker's house to mine just to call someone.

SO! UPDATES! I HAS THEM. Breaking it down into categories:
Work:
Screw Target. Hobo's listened to me rant enough to know that this is now a pricier version of Mayo. My store manager's a dick, and for some reason keeps calling people in from places like gaddomn California (WTF?!) to tell me that I suck at my job.
My job that consists of doing three shifts worth of work in one.
So yeah. Time to find new job and quit there, methinks.
Other stuff:
Tiff finally told her mom we're going out. Oh, that was a blast. Especially seeing her at church the next week. :/
On the positive side, less hiding and such to do.
I've also been pretty sick AGAIN. Last Monday I was coughing up gunk again. I usually get like this at the start of Winter. Blergh.
But yeah. Not much interesting happening.

WELL, it's been a while so I need to bump this.
Thanks to my 4th grade teacher, there's been a sort of reunion on Facebook. She added me...then a student from back then did, then another, then another...
Pretty soon it's gonna be a whole group. Glee. Most of these people I don't remember worth a crap, but a select few I actually missed...
God, it's good to find old peeps and see how their lives have changed.
