Everybody loves Firefox! (Firefox by Artdzot)

Firefox 3.0 RC1 was released a couple of weeks ago, so I switched… so far, me likie. There are a lot of new features, but I’ll only mention the top two I really liked and noticed the most. Before we start, if you’re planning on upgrading, make sure you backup all your bookmarks, passwords, etc. Some of the plugins are not compatible with FF 3.0 RC1. Keep in mind that this release is called RC1 (Release Candidate 1) because it’s still considered to be in beta phase. However, I’ve been using it for two weeks now and I had no problems so far (or when upgrading). You can download it here.

The first one (and the best new feature IMO) is that when you start typing something in your address bar, Firefox automatically (AJAX-efied!) searches through your bookmarks and shows you results as a drop down menu. Say you had Wikipedia bookmarked, as soon as you type wiki, you’ll see Wikipedia listed in the drop down menu.

The other thing is the new tag feature that allows you to add tags to the pages you bookmark and have them show up in the search result as well. These are both great features that are very, very useful.

Since we’re talking about Firefox, I thought I mention two new add-ons as well:

Better Gmail 2.0
Better Gmail is an extension that changes the look of your Gmail account using Graasemonkey user scripts.
Some features include: Gmail interface change, hide menus (such as Gmail Invitation box), hide Spam count, and a lot more. Here are some screenshots I took to show you the new interface. There are three interface to chose from, but this one is the only one that actually looks different (and better!) The other interface changes only change the theme colors.

FoxyTunes
Suggested by member GlassAdam, FoxyTunes is a plugin that adds allows you to control a wide range of media players right from you Firefox. The author adds that this plugin can “find lyrics, covers, videos, bios and much more with a click right from your browser”. I personally haven’t tried it because I mostly listen to Internet Radio, but I hear great things about this plugin. Try it if you spend a lot of time browsing the Net while listening to music~
