When winds die out, the trio are stranded aboard the Centzon and Re-l finds herself struggling to hold on to her sanity.
This is the last episode of volume four; and just like the previous two episodes, I’m not gonna bother summarizing it because nothing happens. Literally. Nothing happens! And yet, this is one of my favorite episodes!
Vincent, Re-l, and Pino are stranded in the middle of nowhere because there are no winds to power up their wind-powered ship! This episode basically covers their daily lives, mostly Re-l’s, as they’re waiting for the weather to change.
Throughout the episode, Re-l is angry. She’s having a hard time controlling her sanity. She’s constantly criticizing and nagging at Vincent over simple matters. By the end of the episode, however, she’s a changed person as we’re about to reach the climax of the story in the next few episodes.

i really didn’t like Re-l’s character very much from the beginning. with how her character acted in this episode kinda won me over though, lol. you get to see her character go though a change being out of the dome city and i guess for me that’s where the charm in her character is.

Hey Jay! I didn’t know you watched Ergo Proxy.
Yeah, Re-l seemed such a b!tch through out this episode (and the previous episodes as well), but she’s becoming more likeable as we get closer to the end.
Hehe, there were times I felt sorry for Iggy and Vincent.

First, I’m sorry if my english is very poor (I’m spanish and spanish have very problems wiht languages, je, je) but I have downloaded some images of this page and I had to thank you for all this effort.
I think Ergo prxy is underrated for very people because is not a commercial anime and has’nt any “merchandasing” (I don’nt know if I have wrote well). Anymore, I think that is an anime dificult to understand, like Serial Experiments Lain, Evangelion or Texcnolyze, with episodes (like 11, 14 and 20) very philosophical to understand for many people.

Hehe. No problem.
Hey, your English is not bad. I could understand what you said ;]
You’re right; Ergo Proxy is very underrated because of its philosophical aspects. It is intended for older-teens and adults, but unfortunately, it wasn’t market and advertised very well. But still, I think it sold a fair amount of DVD’s in the States.
I’m glad to see you enjoyed it as well! Thank you for your comment.

Oh, not at all. :D
In Spain most anime and manga are limited to shoujo and kodomo, no that sort of anime. I watched it because I was searching Gekiga manga (realistic draw) and I liked very much the character designer of Naoyuki Onda.
I’d like to comment some of the symbolism of the anime like the philosophy of Nietzsche in comparison to Platonism but I can’t explain very well to try it myself. and I liked very much the character designer of Naoyuki Onda. Anyway, If you liked Ergo Proxy, I recommended you to see S.E. Lain (J.Abe), a cyberpunk anime similar to Ergo Proxy (although Ergo Poxy is more a seinen postapocaliptic postcyberpunk, more focus on psychology and philosophy)and Moster ( N. Urasawa; Monster is not a cyberpunk anime but it has a very complex argument)
Note: However, I did’t liked very much episode 15, it’s too crazy for me and in the final episode, the last 10 seconds sounds like “wow, I’m the best” in my opinion. I’d liked an episode more explained but I enjoyed it very much.

I can see why you wouldn’t like this episode. Hehe. A lot of people don’t. I just found it amusing to sit back and just look at their daily lives as they are stranded in the middle of nowhere. It was very interesting to see Re-l’s mental state which eventually allowed her to let down her guard and just accept their situation.
Anyway, yeah, I just recently finished downloading Serial Experiments Lain. A member in our forum recommended it and I just had to try it. Haven’t seen any episodes yet though.

No, I was reffering to episode 15 “Nightmare Quiz Show/who wants to be in jeopardy!” and episode 23 (the end); I enjoyed very much this episode, specially when Pino imitates Real and Real geting angry with Vincent. I was reffering to the end of episode 23 when I wrote that the last 10 seconds didn’t like very much.

This has got to be my favorite episode of the series! It’s like a peek into the mind of Re-l. It does her character justice, she may seem at first cold and calculating but then she is still human like everyone else.
Here we see her begin the episode doing her routine: she observes both the Proxy and infected AutoReiv, checks the situation and their supplies and this constantly accelerates her weariness and irritation toward Vincent’s acceptance of their predicament. As the days progressed she got frustrated, got tired and quit nagging Vincent, she just succumbed to not doing anything at all.
I also liked how she imitated Vincent by calling the wind and cursing it. Initially she thought that it was such a foolish thing for Vincent to do but probabbly due to boredom she let herself “loose” for a little while and tried being silly for a change.
The childish pranks and games that both Pino and Vincent were playing were really hilarious! I loved the make-up scenes and Pino immitating Re-l. Also, the “shave it, shave it” scene in the bathroom was to die for! Vincent thought that Re-l was mumbling something else (wanna get lucky, eh?) but she was annoyed by that long neck hair of his that he keeps forgetting to shave! I even thought that out of boredom Re-l would kiss him but as it turned out it was a clever move to pluck Vincent’s neck hair! Damn funny!
I never knew that an episode dedicated to boredom would be so great. Busy doing nothing best summarizes this enjoyable episode.

@topster
This episode is truly one of the most entertaining anime episodes I have seen.
Even though NOTHING happens, it still manages to keep you interested and engaged.
P.S. The title reminds me of King George III’s diary entry for July 4th 1776: “Nothing Important Happened Today”
